8-Days Tanzania Camping Safari & Ol Doinyo Lengai Volcano Trek.

Tanzania Camping Safari & Ol Doinyo Lengai Volcano Trek Overview

This is more than just a safari. It’s a deep dive into the heart of Africa, where nature writes the script and every day is unscripted, raw, and breathtakingly real.

Over the course of 8 incredible days, you’ll explore the most iconic and diverse landscapes of northern Tanzania: from the elephant-filled riverbanks of Tarangire, the wildlife-rich crater floor of Ngorongoro, the endless, predator-patrolled plains of the Serengeti, and finally the remote, fiery soul of Lake Natron and Ol Doinyo Lengai—the sacred mountain of the Maasai people.

This isn’t luxury with white linens and air-conditioning. This is luxury in its purest form: waking up to the roar of lions in the distance, falling asleep beneath a sky crowded with stars, sharing stories around a crackling fire, and being completely, absolutely present in one of the most magical places on Earth.

Day 2: Safari in Tarangire National Park

In the morning, you’ll drive to Tarangire National Park after early breakfast. Tarangire National Park is known for its elephant’s herds of up to 300, migratory wildebeest, zebra, buffalo, impala, gazelle, hartebeest and eland grazing and browsing in the dry river bed.

There is Silale swamp that attracts 550 varieties of birds, the most breeding species you’ll see in one habitat anywhere in the world! The park is also home of tree climbing pythons, as well as lions and leopards. After the adventure of the day, you will head to Karatu for overnight.

  • Accommodation: Fanaka Campsite.
  • Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner.

Day 3: Crater of Wonders – Tarangire to Ngorongoro.

Depart early and head to the breathtaking Ngorongoro Crater, you’ll descend into the Ngorongoro Crater, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the best places in Africa to see a wide variety of animals in a relatively small area. The crater is 610m deep and 260km² wide, making it the largest Caldera in the world.

The crater contains all the big five animals (lions, elephants, rhinos, leopard and buffaloes), hippos, cheetah, antelopes and spotted hyena. Also, in the crater you can see different species of birds. Here, you’ll spot the Big Five—lions, leopards, elephants, rhinos, and buffaloes—along with flamingos at Lake Magadi and a wide array of wildlife.

After an exciting day of game viewing, ascend the crater rim and set up camp with panoramic views.

  • Accommodation: Simba A Campsite (Crater Rim)
  • Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Day 4: Into the Heart of the Serengeti

After an early breakfast, hit the road for the Serengeti, passing through rolling hills and Maasai lands. As you enter the park, the landscapes open wide—and so does the wildlife action.

In the central Seronera region, expect lions on rocks, elephants in herds, and cheetahs scanning the plains. As the sun sets, settle in at Seronera Public Campsite, deep in the heart of the action.

  • Accommodation: Seronera Public Campsite
  • Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Day 5: Serengeti – Full Day Game Drive

This is your Serengeti day. Wake up early and head out while the predators are still on the move. The morning light across the savannah is something you’ll never forget.

Spend the day tracking wildlife, enjoying lunch under a lone acacia tree, and soaking in the vastness. Then it’s back to camp for a well-earned rest and dinner by the fire.

  • Accommodation: Seronera Public Campsite
  • Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Day 6: Journey to Lake Natron & Volcano Views

After breakfast, leave the Serengeti behind as you travel northeast toward the surreal and striking landscapes of Lake Natron—a region few travelers ever see.

The journey itself is spectacular, winding through remote Maasai lands, rocky plateaus, and volcanic backdrops. In the distance, you’ll spot the towering peak of Ol Doinyo Lengai, the “Mountain of God,” which still rumbles and smokes from time to time.

In the late afternoon, you’ll arrive at your campsite near Masai Giraffe Eco Lodge. Take a walk near the soda lake, where bright-pink flamingos dance across shallow waters, or simply sit and stare at the surreal surroundings—it’s like landing on another planet.

  • Accommodation: Masai Giraffe Eco Lodge – Camping
  • Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Day 7: Lake Natron – Culture, Nature & Adventure

Today is a slower-paced day, giving you a chance to connect with both the land and the people who call it home. Wake up to the soft colors of dawn over Lake Natron and, after breakfast, explore the shoreline where thousands of flamingo’s nests in the shimmering shallows.

Later, you’ll visit a nearby Maasai village, where you’ll be welcomed with open arms. Learn about traditional Maasai life, dance, and rituals from the people themselves. It’s not a show—it’s a genuine exchange of stories, culture, and human connection.

Want more adventure? Ask about the optional Ol Doinyo Lengai night trek—a demanding but unforgettable climb up one of the world’s strangest active volcanoes.

  • Accommodation: Masai Giraffe Eco Lodge – Camping
  • Meals: Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

Day 8: Return to Arusha & Farewell

All good things must come to an end—but not before one last stretch of beautiful road. After breakfast, you’ll begin the scenic drive back to Arusha. Watch the landscapes shift from rugged and wild to lush and green as you approach the town. You’ll be transferred directly to Kilimanjaro International Airport/ Arusha Airport for departure.
