Tanzania Safari with Cultural Experience Itinerary

Day 1: Welcome to Tanzania!

Your journey begins the moment you land at Kilimanjaro International Airport, where a Travencia Safaris friendly guide will be waiting to greet you. Enjoy a private transfer to Planet Lodge, nestled at the foot of Mount Meru in Arusha. This peaceful, garden-style lodge offers a calm and relaxing atmosphere – the perfect place to unwind after your flight.

Day 2: Maasai Cultural Experience at Olpopongi

After breakfast, you’ll head west to the Olpopongi Maasai Village. This is one of the few authentic Maasai cultural tourism programs in Tanzania. You’ll get to interact with local Maasai, learn about their customs, traditions, and daily life. Activities may include traditional dance, storytelling, and visiting a real Maasai boma (home). You’ll spend the night in a traditional-style lodge within the village.

Day 3: Materuni Village – Waterfalls and Coffee Tour

Today, you’ll visit Materuni, a lush village on the slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro. You’ll hike to the Materuni Waterfall and then take part in a hands-on coffee-making experience with a local Chagga family, learning how to roast, grind, and brew coffee the traditional way. After lunch, you’ll drive back to Arusha and return to Planet Lodge for the night.

Day 4: Safari in Tarangire National Park

In the morning, you’ll drive to Tarangire National Park after early breakfast. Tarangire National Park is known for its elephant’s herds of up to 300, migratory wildebeest, zebra, buffalo, impala, gazelle, hartebeest and eland grazing and browsing in the dry river bed. There is Silale swamp that attracts 550 varieties of birds, the most breeding species you’ll see in one habitat anywhere in the world! The park is also home of tree climbing pythons, as well as lions and leopards. After the adventure of the day, you will head to Karatu for overnight.

Day 5: Into the Serengeti

After breakfast, you’ll make your way through the scenic Ngorongoro Conservation Area into Serengeti National Park. Along the way, you’ll begin to see wildlife on the move. Upon entering the Serengeti, your game viewing continues as you head toward your tented camp. You’ll stay at Embalakai Tented Camp for a real bush experience with modern comfort.

Day 6: Full Day Exploring the Serengeti

Early morning game drive in the Serengeti plains trying to capture what was missed on yesterday’s drive. Enjoy an unforgettable sunrise game drive across the Serengeti and get a chance to appreciate the view as the sun set fire to the savannah while predators such as leopards and lions hunt for their morning meal. Alternatively, you might want to explore the untouched parts of Serengeti as you casually drift away from the surface of the earth in the early hours of the morning, safe in the basket of a hot air balloon.

This is an additional activity if you like to add it then confirm with your safari expert. After breakfast you will proceed to explore the vast savannah of Serengeti in your open roof vehicle with your packed lunch. Take your hat and sunglasses out and enjoy what nature has in store for you.

Day 7: Ngorongoro Crater Tour

After breakfast, you’ll leave the Serengeti and head back to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. You’ll descend into the Ngorongoro Crater, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the best places in Africa to see a wide variety of animals in a relatively small area. The crater is 610m deep and 260km² wide, making it the largest Caldera in the world.

The crater contains all the big five animals (lions, elephants, rhinos, leopard and buffaloes), hippos, cheetah, antelopes and spotted hyena. Also, in the crater you can see different species of birds. Other game such as velvet monkey, jackal, foxes, rock and tree hyraxes, warthog, gnu, zebra and here You’ll enjoy a picnic lunch inside the crater and then return to Marera Valley Lodge in Karatu for the night.

Day 8: Lake Eyasi Cultural Visit & departure

On your final day, you’ll visit Lake Eyasi, home to two unique indigenous groups – the Hadzabe and the Datoga. You’ll join the Hadzabe for an early morning hunt using traditional bows and arrows and learn about their hunter-gatherer lifestyle. Then, you’ll visit the Datoga tribe, known for their blacksmithing skills. After the cultural visits, you’ll drive directly to Kilimanjaro International Airport for your departure flight. It’s best to schedule an evening flight (after 6:00 PM).
